100th Birthday celebrations for Cestria Tenant

25/06/2010

One of Cestria Community Housing’s tenants living in Sacriston celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends yesterday.

Mrs Elizabeth Jane Petch of St. John’s Court in Sacriston celebrated with family and friends after care staff from the Chester-le-Street-based landlord organised a party.

Mrs Petch, who has one son, three grandsons and four great-grandsons was born and has lived all her life in Sacriston. She was one of the first tenants to move into the sheltered scheme back in 1972 but has lived on her own since her husband, William died in 1962.

The former munitions worker who has lived through two World Wars said, “This is marvellous. It’s been a special day to celebrate with my dear family and friends. I’d like to thank the staff at Cestria Care for organising my party.”

Her son Billy (71), said, “My mother is over the moon and was excited to receive a telegram from the Queen. The family have organised another party this weekend - she’s now got more flowers than a florists!”
