Gas Safety

Smell Gas? Ring 0800 111 999In the event of a gas escape or smell of gas

Please contact the gas emergency service provider Transco on freephone number 0800 111 999. You must also contact Cestria Community Housing on freephone number 0800 587 0001.

  • Extinguish all cigarettes
  • Turn off the gas supply at the meter
  • Open doors and windows if you can, to allow the gas to escape
  • Do not use any naked flames
  • Do not use any electrical switches as a spark could ignite the gas
  • If the house has an intercom system to open the door, please open the door manually

Gas Safety General

Faulty gas equipment can be dangerous.  Carbon monoxide poisoning can happen if:- 

  • The gas appliance was not correctly installed
  • The equipment is not working correctly
  • The appliance has not been serviced and checked for safety once a year
  • The air vents are blocked or not installed in the same room as the appliance
  • The chimney or flue becomes blocked
  • The appliance is installed or maintained by unqualified people
