What does the Adaptations Service do?

The service helps older and disabled people to remain living independently at home, and supports their carers by:

• providing advice including re-housing options
• arrange for the provision of equipment
• arranging minor adaptations
• arranging major adaptations

Who can receive the service?

Any Cestria Housing tenant who has long-term physical problems which mean that they have difficulty in getting into or out of their home, or carrying out particular tasks in their home will be helped by the service.

What is equipment and an adaptation?

If you are disabled there may be physical barriers that make it difficult for you to carry out ordinary day to day activities. An adaptation to your home will enable you to move around your home and access its facilities more easily. An adaptation will also make it easier for any carers who look after you. Equipment assists in allowing you to carry out daily tasks within your home.

Typical major adaptations:

• Level access showers 
• Stair lifts and vertical lifts 
• Ramps, rails and steps
• Door widening for wheel chair access

Typical minor adaptations include:

• Grab rails
• Second handrails
• Lever taps

Typical equipment includes:

• A raised toilet seat
• A bath seat 
• Chair raisers
