Right to Buy Checklist

You may have the Preserved Right to Buy your home from Cestria Community Housing Association if the following checklist applies. Please note that this checklist is for guidance only and is not an assurance that you do have the Right to Buy.

  • I was a tenant with Chester-le-Street District Council when it transferred to Cestria in 2008
  • I became a tenant after 2005 and I have been a public sector tenant for at least 5 years.
  • I became a tenant after 2005 and I have at least 5 years tenancy history.
  • I want to buy the property with my partner who is not a joint tenant but I can provide documentary evidence that they have lived at the property for more than 12 months.
  • I do not have any County Court Judgements or notices of seeking possession filed against me.
  • The property I want to buy is not designated for occupation by elderly persons only.

How to Apply

If you would like to be considered to purchase your home under the Right to Buy scheme you can download an application form from www.direct.gov.uk, contact a member of the Right to Buy team on 0191 3851900 or e-mail your request to righttobuy@cestria.org and we will send a Right to Buy application pack out to you.

The Right to Buy Pack includes some useful information about the Right to Buy and a Right to Buy claim for or RTB1, you will need to complete the form and return it to us in the prepaid envelope included within the pack.

If you would like some help to complete the form you can request a member of the Right to Buy team to visit you in your home and they will assist you with any queries you might have.

You can also pick up a Right to Buy form in person from our One Stop Shop, Chester-le-Street or main Bowes Offices at Lambton Park.
